[VN Ver]

What is heat stress?

Heat stress is the result of the correlation between high temperature and humidity, often referred to as Temperature Humidity Index (THI).

Heat stress is recognized as a major environmental factor affecting health and performance of poultry.

Effects of heat stress

1. Affect feed intake

  • One of the most pronounced effects of HT on chicken is reduced feed intake.
  • The decrease in appetite will make the chicken not ensure enough energy needed for metabolic activities. Make lack of essential nutrients.
  • Effect on resistance and growth of broiler
  • Affect resistance, yield, size and quality of eggs, hatching rate of layer.

2. Increased risk of secondary infection

Usually chickens breathe through their noses. The nasal sinuses have the ability to filter bacteria and dirt from the air into the respiratory system to help limit secondary infections. When the weather is hot: chickens often breathe through their mouths. Thus, the chicken has bypassed the bacterial filter system. Make increase risk of secondary infections: CCRD, …

3. Effect on eggshell

When the chicken’s body temperature rises, the lungs increase respiration to reduce heat. However, this process will change the bicarbonate and calcium levels in the blood. Reduces calcium carbonate below the level required for eggshell formation.
